IAEP Local R1-294 Hunters Ambulance leaders received special training courses from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS) this week, promoting valuable strategies to settle labor disputes in their workplace.
The Local 294 leaders gathered at the IAEP office in Cromwell, Connecticut on Wednesday to hear presentations and complete exercises from the FMCS, an independent government agency specializing in conflict resolution between unions and management.
Topics covered at the training included steward training grievances, mediation, conflict resolution and more.
“Overall across 2024, we’ve encouraged an increased focus on training with our Locals,” said IAEP National Director Phil Petit. “It’s critical that we invest in our leadership and our members so that we’re active in the workplace and effectively addressing our members’ needs and concerns.”
Those looking to schedule their own FMCS training session can find a mediator in their geographic region.
State Representative Michael Quinn, who represents the Meriden area where Hunters Ambulance is headquartered, also stopped in to say hello and talk with his first responders on the training day.
The IAEP recently endorsed Quinn for his reelection campaign to the Connecticut State Senate, lauding his dedication to improving the lives of first responders in the state.
"The members had an opportunity to speak with Representative Quinn during a virtual meeting and ask about issues they were focused on and were impressed with him,” said IAEP National Representative and Local 294 member Pete Zera. “The Local sees this endorsement as the beginning of a promising relationship with an eye toward promoting and advocating for EMS in Hartford to the betterment of all pre-hospital providers in Connecticut."
