IAEP Locals across the east coast held events supporting riders participating in the 23rd annual Muddy Angels National EMS Memorial Bike Ride (NEMSMBR) this past week.
The ride, which the IAEP sponsored this year, honors EMS providers by “organizing and implementing long distance cycling events that memorialize and celebrate the lives of those who serve everyday, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty,” according to their website.
The NEMSMBR East Coast route is currently on Day 7 of their ride. They have already passed through multiple IAEP Locals along the way, including Locals 95, 294, 684 and 20, with participating riders from Worcester EMS and Empress EMS.
On Day 1, they passed through Worcester, MA for lunch and a ceremony, with the food provided by the local hospital. On Day 2, they had a rest stop at Hunters Ambulance in Connecticut. On Day 3, the riders passed through Stamford, Connecticut midday for another ceremony, with lunch and refreshments provided to the riders by Local 684 and Stamford EMS.
Empress EMS hosted a dinner and ceremony for the riders that evening. Local 20 filled up a support vehicle with lots of food, water and drinks to sustain the riders between stops along the rest of the ride.
“The riders have been enduring less-than-ideal conditions this year, with many cold and rainy riding days. Yet, they have pushed through honorably to continue to commemorate and honor the EMS providers who we've lost in the last year,” said IAEP Local 20 President Alanna Badgley.
